OAS Mobility wheelchairs are designed with both electric mode and manual (push) mode, allowing the chair to be used even when the battery is low or when manual movement is preferred.
This provides flexibility and added safety in different daily situations.
๐ Electric Mode vs Manual Mode
Each rear wheel is equipped with a motor release lever that controls the mode:
โก Electric Mode (D / Drive)
- Electromagnetic brakes are engaged
- Wheelchair operates in powered mode
- Chair will hold position securely, including on slopes
โ This is the normal driving mode for everyday use.
๐ Manual Mode (N / Freewheel)
- Electromagnetic brakes are disengaged
- Wheelchair can be pushed manually like a standard wheelchair
- Can be used even when the battery is empty
โ This mode allows the chair to be pushed without electric power.
๐ Can the wheelchair be pushed if the battery runs out?
Yes.
When the chair is switched to N / Freewheel mode, it can be pushed manually even without battery power.
You may notice slight resistance due to the electromagnetic braking system, which is normal and designed for safety.
๐งท How to stop safely in manual mode (e.g. on a slope)
If you are in manual mode and need to stop the chair on an incline:
- Switch both rear wheel levers to D / Drive mode
- The electromagnetic brakes will engage
- The chair will stay securely in place
When you want to push again, switch back to N / Freewheel mode.

- In Drive mode: chair is locked and stable
- In Freewheel mode: chair can roll and should be controlled manually
- Always ensure brakes are engaged when stationary on slopes
